Riverwalk Youth Ballet opened its doors in Jacksonville, NC in the fall of 2017. Our studio has grown tremendously in the past few seasons, and was voted Jacksonville's "Best of the Best" for dance studios for 2019. Riverwalk Youth Ballet strives to provide outstanding dance instruction based on a solid foundation of classical ballet. We possess an extensive focus on technique as a mechanism for growth for a dancer. Riverwalk Youth Ballet was founded upon the ideology that dance instruction is not intended solely to create a better dancer, but to also make your child a better person. Riverwalk Youth Ballet has a highly qualified staff who have experience in both dancing and teaching at some of the best dance schools in the country! We pride ourselves in being able to provide some of the absolute best dance training in Eastern North Carolina.

Alyssa Hudgins originally hails from Peoria, Illinois where she began dancing at the age of three. Alyssa studied ballet in the pre-professional and professional trainee program at Peoria Ballet Company under the direction of Mary Price Boday followed by Erich Yetter.
She received instruction on merit-scholarship at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan as well as at Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle. Alyssa performed as a festival dancer at Chautauqua Ballet in New York, and completed a summer season with the world famous Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City at the age of only 16. While in New York City, she was afforded the opportunity to perform at American Airlines Theater on Broadway.
She has received instruction under some of the world's best dancers and choreographers including Erich Yetter, Mary Price Boday, Jean-Pierre Bonnexfoux, Patricia McBride, Violette Verdy, Michael Vernon, and Julie Kent to name a few. Alyssa has performed leading roles in numerous productions of the Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Swan Lake, and Firebird among other classical ballets as well as original choreography pieces. She was also a top 10 finalist at Youth America Grand Prix in Chicago in 2004.
Alyssa began teaching at the age of 18, and has taught at numerous dance studios across Central Illinois and Eastern North Carolina.
Beyond dance, Alyssa graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University with a degree in Psychology. She also has a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Ava is a North Carolina native who has been been dancing since the age of 5, finding her first love for dance in preschool classes, prompting her mom to enroll her in formal dance instruction. She first attended Fox Troupe Dance in Wilmington, NC where she trained for four years under the direction of Mira Fox-Lamendola. After moving to Jacksonville, North Carolina, Ava trained at Step-Ahead Dance Company, and later became one of the founding members of Riverwalk Youth Ballet, where she is now a passionate and talented teacher!
Ava has continued her dance education attending summer intensives under the instruction of Toby Lewellen and Amanda Sewell. Beyond ballet instruction, Ava is extensively trained in tap, jazz, acro, and contemporary dance. She participated in “Wing-It” Tap Intensive in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ava will also spend the summer of 2021 at the North Carolina Governor’s School studying contemporary dance.
