Below you will find a description of the ballet classes Riverwalk Youth Ballet offers. As always, please contact us for more information or questions!
An introductory dance class for 2 and 3 year olds designed to allow children to discover fundamental body movements and directional commands necessary to set the foundation for beginning ballet technique. We explore body movements such as “up,” “down,” and “side to side.” In creative movement we begin exploring rhythms and beats in music, as well as introduce basic ballet vocabulary. Props such as rhythm sticks, parachutes, and instruments are often used along with dance-focused games in order to ignite an early love for dance in your little one!
A class designed to introduce students to more formal ballet technique including ballet positions and beginning ballet terminology. Dancers will continue to work on refining rhythm and musicality through the use of age-appropriate listening activities, often facilitating the use of props. Dancers will be introduced to beginning stretching exercises with a focus on both improving and maintaining flexibility.
Students begin to learn the traditional ballet class structure with the introduction of basic ballet barre work. Students will continue to build on their understanding of ballet vocabulary, and continue to improve flexibility through age-appropriate stretching exercises. Class will consist of introductory barre work, stretching, and floor exercises.
Ballet 2 students will continue to build upon fundamental ballet terminology with a focus on fostering strength, flexibility, and balance. Students will learn to become more confident dancers and develop a deeper understanding of both the structure of a traditional ballet class as well as ballet culture.
Ballet 3 students should have a developed understanding of ballet terminology as well as fundamental positions of legs and arms. Dancers will learn continued concentration, flexibility, and endurance.
Ballet 4 dancers should have a strong understanding of ballet movement and body alignment. They should be developing more refined turn-out, epaulement (upper body movement),
and port de bras (arm placement). Class is structured as a traditional ballet class, and students should have a developed understanding of ballet terminology. Many students at this level are being invited to begin pointe or pre-pointe work.
Ballet 5 dancers should have extensive knowledge of ballet terminology and technique. Instructional exercises often become faster and/or more complex. At this level students are working on maintaining stamina, endurance, and flexibility while fostering and developing traditional ballet technique. These dancers should be participating in intermediate and advanced pointe combinations.

Our adult ballet class is a beginner/intermediate level class for those adults wanting to learn ballet. Many of our students danced in their younger years, and want to get back into it. Others simply always wanted to dance, but never had the opportunity. This class is open to adults of all ages, is fun, inviting, and provides an excellent workout while learning true classical ballet technique.
